FIELD OF TENTS
I Love America was one of the nation’s largest Independence Day celebrations attracting upwards to 150,000 people. I was commissioned to document the event. I was talking to Pastor John Lindell of James River Church, whose church sponsors the event, about the event. John said, “It is amazing…wait until you see the thousands upon thousands of people scattered across the field in tents”. A light bulb went on in my head – I want to capture the people of this event for a special exhibition titled “Field of Tents”. To effectively capture the portraits, a full studio was set up in a tent, which went hand-in-hand with the concept. I also roamed the field of tents, photographing people – literally all walks of life. In the end, that became the purpose, ‘all walks of life’ coming together sharing life together.
