SWEET LIFE – CANCER’S UNEXPECTED LESSONS
Cox Health Systems approached me with an intriguing project – create a series of inspiring, powerful cancer survivor portraits for permanent exhibition at the Hulston Cancer Center. The portraits would be a source of hope and strength for people going through cancer.
“With Sweet Life, I want to show the positive power of the human spirit and the wonderful, miraculous things one can learn from cancer. We do not want to focus on the pain and scars of the disease. I want to empower people to more clearly see that this is a ‘sweet life’ we live – no matter what.”
The shooting began in earnest with fourteen cancer patients. After this original group, I have continued to accept new portrait subjects for Sweet Life. To date, the project includes the portraits of over seventy five cancer survivors.
Sweet Life has been exhibited at many venues including an European tour sponsored by Roche Holding AG Pharmaceutical Company. Sweet Life has also been featured in Buzzfeed, Huffington Post and others.
