THE CITY THAT SPANS TIME AND PLACE
I have to admit - Istanbul was magnificent and overwhelming. The shear size of the city with its soaring population that stands at almost 16 million people took my breath away. It is a metropolitan city that actually crosses two continents, Europe and Asia. This trip was one of the biggest adventures I have ever experienced. We traveled to Turkey (with no tour guide) to film a documentary and do photography to go with the book release, Dying Out Loud.
Dying Out Loud tells the true story of Stan and his family who traded the comforts of suburban California for the crowded cobblestone streets of this Middle Eastern country where very few people even speak English. The explored the dense urban and remote areas of Turkey, befriending the people, courageously bringing a message of hope and freedom to those needing to hear it. Even after Stan was diagnosed with stage-four cancer, they remained in Turkey to continue on their mission. Here are select portraits of Stan, his wife and family, and people from their community.
